Have a Gardening Question? Ask a Master Gardener!

Tillamook County Master Gardeners will be attending Farmers Markets this season, in Neskowin, Pacific City, Tillamook & Manzanita on the dates below. For each market’s full summer schedule and market vendor offerings, click on their link. Visit us at any of the markets where we will answer your gardening questions such as: ‘Is it too late to plant the tomatoes?’ ‘What is this bug crawling in the cabbage?’ ‘The deer have eaten all my flowers!’ ‘The moles have been aerating the lawn. Do I poison the holes, flood them out, trap?’ We can also offer plant and tree recommendations to ensure they will grow successfully on the Oregon Coast.
For those of you who are interested in becoming a Master Gardener there is also GOOD NEWS. OSU will be conducting Master Gardener in-person training classes in 2022. Details will be coming out this fall, so be sure to check our website for updates. We also like to just meet people and have a friendly chat.

Desperately needing a good gardener to take care of my yard in Rockaway Beach. 1925 vintage cottage. My childhood home. Purchased by my parents in 1946. just had pruning done by a ;landscaper who butchered my trees. I live in Salem and couldn’t be there for the work. I am sick. Flower beds need to be replanted, I need advice and gardeners that love gardening and creating. Please advise. Jan
Janice: I’m sorry to hear of your landscape problems. Master Gardeners do not provide gardening or landscape services to homeowners; our mission is educating the public on sustainable gardening practices. I’d recommend contacting other landscape business in the area and ask for recommendations from a few of their customers prior to hiring them. There is also a wealth of information, publications, and online classes on the Oregon State University’s website: Main Extension website is: https://extension.oregonstate.edu/tillamook. Publications on pruning, native plants, flowers, trees, can be found in their extensive Publications Catalog here: https://extension.oregonstate.edu/search?search=catalog and OSU’s Growing Oregon Gardeners – Level-up Series are one hour ZOOM presentations held monthly. They are free – only registration is required. Each session is recorded and can be found here: https://extension.oregonstate.edu/mg/growing-oregon-gardeners-level-series. If you have a specific gardening problem or question, we have Master Gardeners staffing the Plant Clinic at the Extension Office Tuesday’s and Thursday’s each week through September. You may also send us questions via our ‘Ask A Master Gardener’ page on this website.
